You could be losing more than 10% of the heat from your home through your floor. Installing ‘fit for purpose’ underfloor insulation correctly will help keep your home warmer. Underfloor insulation can reduce cold draughts as well as reducing dampness, as it can limit moisture from rising into the house from a wet or damp crawl space below.

How do I meet the underfloor insulation - healthy home standard for my rental?
Ceiling and underfloor insulation has been compulsory in all rental homes since 1 July 2019. The healthy homes insulation standard builds on the current regulations and some existing insulation will need to be topped up or replaced.
All private rentals must comply with the healthy home’s standards within 90 days of any new or renewed tenancy after 1 July 2021, with all private rentals complying by 1 July 2024. All boarding houses must comply by 1 July 2021. All houses rented by Kāinga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must comply by 1 July 2023.
How much underfloor insulation would I need?
The thermal resistance value or R-Value required for underfloor insulation to meet the New Zealand Building Code is R-Value 1.3. This standard is the same for all geographic regions. We recommend installing insulation at R1.5 to R1.9 as the above is the minimum requirement.

Do I need to be home for the install of my underfloor insulation?
Most properties access to the underfloor is from the outside manhole however you will need to check this is the case for your property, also that you do not have any animals that may interfere with access. If all is ok, no you do not need to be home for install.
